What to Expect From Your Online Therapy Sessions

Participating in online therapy might feel unfamiliar at first, but many clients find it surprisingly comfortable and convenient once they begin. At In Mind Therapy, our team is committed to making each session as accessible and effective as possible, so you can get the support you need without the stress of travel or scheduling complications.

Online therapy sessions are conducted via Zoom or phone call, and are arranged at a time that suits your schedule. Once your appointment is confirmed, you’ll receive a link and instructions for joining the session. All you need is a quiet, private space and a stable internet connection. If you prefer a phone call, our therapists will contact you at the designated time.

During your first few sessions, your therapist will take the time to get to know you, understand your circumstances, and work with you to identify the goals you want to achieve. From there, you’ll begin developing strategies and practical tools tailored to your needs. Whether it’s managing anxiety, building confidence, coping with change, or improving communication skills, each session is guided by your priorities.

The Value of Consistency in Therapy

One of the most important elements of any therapeutic journey is consistency. Just as physical health improves with regular exercise, mental well-being also strengthens through steady, ongoing support. That’s why we encourage NDIS participants to stick to their agreed schedule of sessions, as consistency can lead to lasting improvements in emotional regulation, behaviour, and quality of life.

Online therapy makes consistency easier to maintain. By removing the need to travel, it reduces missed appointments and makes therapy more flexible, particularly for participants with mobility challenges or complex schedules. We understand that life is full of commitments, and our goal is to make therapy something that fits around you—not the other way around.

Holistic and Inclusive Approach

At In Mind Therapy, we pride ourselves on taking a holistic approach to care. This means considering the full picture of a participant’s life—including emotional, psychological, social, and environmental factors. We don’t just treat symptoms—we work with you to understand the deeper causes and help create meaningful, lasting change.

We also value collaboration and inclusivity. Our therapists are happy to work alongside your support coordinator, family members, and careers to ensure everyone involved in your care is on the same page. This team-based approach ensures continuity of support and allows for a richer understanding of your goals and progress.

Supporting a Range of Needs

Mental health support looks different for every individual. Some participants may be dealing with anxiety or depression, while others may be working on emotional regulation, sensory processing issues, social skills, or adjustment to a new living situation. We support clients across a wide spectrum of experiences and diagnoses.

Our psychologists and counsellors are trained in various therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. This range allows us to adapt our method depending on what resonates most with the individual.

We also place strong emphasis on building a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. Trust is key in therapy, and we believe that everyone deserves to feel heard, understood, and respected. Our team is culturally sensitive and LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and we are always happy to discuss any specific needs you may have to make your therapy experience comfortable and meaningful.

Empowering You to Reach Your Goals

Therapy isn’t just about addressing challenges—it’s also about building on your strengths. One of the most rewarding parts of our work is helping NDIS participants uncover their own potential. Whether it’s learning to better express yourself, becoming more independent, or re-engaging with your community, therapy can be a transformative process.

We’ve seen participants gain confidence, deepen their relationships, return to work or study, and find renewed purpose in life. These changes don’t happen overnight, but with patience and the right support, they’re well within reach. Our team is here to walk beside you, every step of the way.
